  4.                   (known fondly to those involved as PUBNET)

  8. ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHERS EXCHANGE...
  9.  
  10.     The International Publishers Exchange (IPE) is a non-profit international 
  11. organization staffed entirely by volunteers. Among its members are private 
  12. individuals, corporations, and institutions, all of whom are involved in the 
  13. many aspects of electronic and print communications, such as desktop 
  14. publishing, presentation graphics, printing, advertising, and technical 
  15. documentation.

  17.     Anyone can join IPE, either as a casual user or active participant. The 
  18. goal is to create a "User's Intelligence Network," where members may share 
  19. experiences, ask questions, and gain insight into the use of these powerful new 
  20. technologies.

  23. ABOUT THE BBS NETWORK...
  24.  
  25.     Central to the achievement of IPE's goal is PUBNET--a telecommunications 
  26. network linking bulletin board systems around the world. This network is based 
  27. on the same technology as the popular FIDONET EMAIL system. Messages and files 
  28. are distributed to participating PUBNET BBSs on a daily basis. A message 
  29. entered on one of these boards is "echoed" to all other PUBNET boards 
  30. throughout the world.

  32.     Whether you are creating a church newsletter, a major corporate brochure, 
  33. or investigating the latest in multi-media, you will find PUBNET members more 
  34. than willing to help and share their experiences. You are also encouraged to 
  35. help others in their publishing and communications efforts.

  37.     Key to PUBNET are the various conferences, each dealing with a specific 
  38. aspect of PUBNET or electronic printing and publishing. The current PUBNET 
  39. conference list includes:

  41. INTROPUB       - Introduce yourself here and find out about PUBNET

  44. COREL          - Talk on Corel products, including but not limited to Draw!
  45. FONTS          - Installing and using fonts on any platform
  46. GRAPHIC_DESIGN - Analysis and commentary on publication design 
  47. LASERMASTER    - Talk about LaserMaster's printer controller cards
  48. PAGEMAKER      - Discussions of Aldus' PageMaker
  49. POSTSCRIPT     - Postscript printers and programming tips
  50. PRODUCTION     - Publishing in a production environment
  51. PUB_ADS        - Commercial advertisements from publishing-related firms
  52. PUB_BUSINESS   - Discussions of the business side of publishing
  53. PUBNET         - PUBNET administration
  54. PUBNEWS        - The latest news from major software vendors
  55. QUARK          - Quark Xpress publishing software discussions
  56. TECH_SUPPORT   - Technical support for DTP products
  57. UNIX_PUB       - Publishing on UNIX platforms
  58. VPUG           - Intended to facilitate comunication between the many
  59.                  independent VPUGs

  61.   (Note: A Ventura conference was included in IPE's planning, but PubNet is a
  62.   Fido-carried service, and Fido already has a Ventura echo in place.)

  64.     Join the INTROPUB conference first and let us know about yourself. If you 
  65. need help finding out where to go within PUBNET to find an answer INTROPUB is 
  66. the place to start!

  69. A FINAL NOTE...
  70.  
  71.     PUBNET continues to grow with each passing month. As a result, we are still 
  72. setting up hubs and testing links, both nationally and internationally. The 
  73. boards noted with an asterisk in the accompanying DTPBBSxx list are current 
  74. participants in the IPE and PUBNET. At this writing, not all of the boards are 
  75. connected for all of the echo conferences, but it is hoped that those that 
  76. aren't will be soon.
